What is the difference between merit list and waiting list??And how come merit list have more student than no of seat in respective colleges??
ReplyDeleteHey.
DeleteSo merit list is the no of students who are directly offered admission by the institutes from in the first list itself. While every college also release a waiting list where the candidates are waitlisted by their Composite scores. This functions similar to our railways where every candidate who withdraws admission creates a vacant seat that is then offered to next candidate from the waitlist.
Regarding the no. of students most colleges do it which is a concept known as buffer calls. Here, the colleges give admission offers to a greater no. of students as compared to the sanctioned strength and done to reduce the waitlist movement. Hope this would be clear. Thanks :)
